Leonard (Leo) is a senior analyst with Bellwether in the Policy and Evaluation practice area. Leo is a certified educator with more than 10 years of  K-12 classroom experience. Prior to joining Bellwether in 2022, he served as an assistant professor of special education in the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Langston University in Oklahoma. Prior to Langston, Leo served as a psychology instructor at various universities across the U.S., including Tuskegee University and the University of North Georgia.

Leo holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Auburn University, a master’s degree in special education from Clark Atlanta University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Morehouse College. His research interests include teacher recruitment and retention, racial and gender equity, and stereotype threat. Leo enjoys serving his community and is a proud and active member of the Urban League of Greater OKC Young Professionals, 100 Black Men of Tulsa, and the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma.

Why I do this work:

My personal and professional mission is to bridge the achievement gap for systemically underrepresented communities. I am personally motivated to do this work, as I have the lived experiences of the successes of those who did the work before me.
