Background

Cametra Edwards is a senior adviser on the Academic and Program Strategy team within Bellwether’s Strategic Advising practice area.

Cametra spent more than 20 years in charter school leadership and management as the founder and director of a Florida-based charter network. She expanded her work as a senior director with Achievement First Accelerate, providing leadership coaching for CEOs and educational leaders from charter management organizations across the country. Prior to joining Bellwether, she led the Accelerate team as its executive director.

Cametra holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in school psychology and a bachelor’s degree in social science education. Her greatest accomplishment by far is being a mom to Ajani and Eden and spending time volunteering to serve her community.

Why I do this work

I am where I am because my local school district began desegregation in 1971. Through the busing initiative I had the “luck” of attending a high-quality school outside of my neighborhood. An excellent education should not be left to “luck”; it is an inalienable right for the descendants of slaves in this country. I do the work I do to empower the disenfranchised.
