Background:
John Wang is an intern at Bellwether in the Policy and Evaluation practice area.
As a researcher, he is focused on preparing students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, with the knowledge and skills for civic engagement. Prior to joining Bellwether, John partnered with various state, district, and local education organizations to tackle a wide array of educational issues, including district turnaround and teacher evaluation systems. He also taught mathematics in socioeconomically disadvantaged schools as a participant of the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship program.
John holds a bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics and in quantitative sciences from Emory University, a master’s degree from Mercer University, and a master’s of public policy degree from the University of Virginia, where he is also pursuing a doctorate in education policy.
Why I do this work:
Education is empowerment. I deeply believe that providing every individual with high-quality education will have a multiplicative effect of making the world a better place. As someone that has benefited from a high-quality education, I have an obligation to ensure that others, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds, also have that same opportunity by removing systemic barriers.
