Background:

Scotty Jean-Baptiste is a summer fellow at Bellwether in the Strategic Advising practice area.

Prior to Bellwether, Scotty was an Education Pioneers COVID Recovery Fellow and managed multiple projects in Boston Public Schools, the K-12 system he attended as a child. Scotty began his career in the classroom as a 2013 Teach For America corps member in Mississippi. After three years of teaching, he served as an academic dean and assistant school leader for the Achievement First and KIPP organizations, based in Hartford, Connecticut, and St. Louis, Missouri, respectively. Scotty also has experience serving as an education consultant, supporting a myriad of schools and school districts across the country.

Why I do this work:

The education that my mother received when she immigrated to America as a teenager enabled her to provide for, and raise her children as a single mother. The education that I received enabled me to break the cycle of poverty that I was born into. Education has had a transformational effect on my family’s life, and because of that, I want everyone to have access to an equitable education.
