Background:
Chantavia Burton Moore is chief of staff to the Strategic Advising practice area at Bellwether. In her role, she develops and implements processes and structures to maximize the team’s ability to deliver on Bellwether’s mission.
Prior to joining Bellwether, Chantavia served as the vice president of strategy and operations for a community-based K-12 charter network in Los Angeles. There, she strategically infused data and technology resources into the instructional program, while leading the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic. She established aligned standards and led cross-functional teams to increase operational design and effectiveness for students, families, and staff. Earlier in her career, she was the chief of student equity and access for the Tennessee Achievement School District. In this role, Chantavia oversaw the development of the district’s programmatic accountability system to monitor charter progress towards goals, managed the district’s school performance framework, and oversaw compliance of student subgroup populations.
Chantavia holds a J.D. from Washington University School of Law, a master’s degree in business management from Wake Forest University, and a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University.
Why I do this work:
My “success” is the result of advocating parents and community supporters, who fought and navigated a broken system to ensure that I received above-average educational opportunities. I believe that all students, regardless of circumstance, should have an opportunity to experience a tailored educational experience that discovers and harnesses their talents and intentionally prepares them for the person they are meant to become. I am dedicated to using my skills, earned and natural, to create a more effective and equitable system that supports this effort for Black and brown students.
