Background:

Mandy Berman is the lead content writer at Bellwether on the External Relations team. 

Mandy brings over a decade of professional writing experience to Bellwether. She is the author of two critically acclaimed novels published by Random House, “Perennials” and “The Learning Curve,” and her work has been featured in The New York Times, TIME, Literary Hub, Joyland, and elsewhere. Most recently, she served as a writer and strategist for the ed tech platform, Level All, creating personalized guidance for high school students.

Mandy is also a passionate educator. She first entered the classroom as a middle school teacher in Mzuzu, Malawi, and later as an English language assistant at primary schools in Southern France. She went on to teach writing, rhetoric, and composition to undergraduate and graduate students at Ohio University, Montclair State University, Manhattanville College, and The College of Staten Island within the The City University of New York system. She also spent several summers teaching creative writing to high school students from around the world at Columbia University’s Summer High School Program.

Mandy received a bachelor’s degree in English from Franklin & Marshall College and an MFA in creative writing from Columbia University. She lives in Beacon, New York, with her novelist husband and their two young children.

Why I do this work:

As a former college professor, I’ve seen firsthand how a strong educational foundation empowers students both personally and professionally. I believe that every young person has the right to a quality education, and that a well-educated public translates to a more equitable and just society.
