Background:

Siobhan Gardner is a senior academic and program strategy consultant with Bellwether. Before joining Bellwether, Siobhan taught and led within KIPP Metro Atlanta Schools for 15 years. Most recently, she was school principal of KIPP South Fulton Academy in East Point, Georgia. In this role, she partnered with families, students, and staff to bring to life her vision of a community anchored in joy and academic excellence. As an accomplished educator and leader that uses data to drive decisions, she successfully led and developed an organizational culture of excellence to achieve performance outcomes. Within two years of her leadership, she increased the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement score in her school from a “C” rating to an “A” rating. KIPP South Fulton became a Title I Distinguished School — the highest-performing top 5% of Georgia’s Title I schools.

Siobhan started her career in education with Teach For America as a math teacher in Newark, New Jersey. It was in this setting that she discovered her passion for data and recognized the power of transparency, joy, and humility when partnering with families and students to achieve results.

Siobhan holds a master’s degree in education from National Louis University in Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and economics from Emory University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She currently lives in Atlanta with her husband, Marcus, and their sons Malcolm and Matthew. Siobhan and her husband are avid runners and enjoy time on the trails running alongside their boys as they bike.

Why I do this work: 

Growing up in the Bronx, New York, my educational experience taught me both the limitations of being educated within an inequitable system and the power of a community working collectively to fill in the gaps created by these systems. I do this work because I believe a more equitable educational ecosystem is possible.
