Diverse Learning Options for All Families
There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all education. Bellwether appreciates that every family and young person has different needs, and supports the creation of high-quality choices and innovations to equitably meet them. From helping charter schools grow in quality to ensuring that promising innovations expand access for systemically marginalized communities, Bellwether fosters the development of high-performing and continuously improving educational options.
Our Impact
Bellwether works with all kinds of schools, including traditional school districts, charter management organizations, private and parochial schools, and emerging avenues for more innovative, personalized learning. Our work takes many forms and bridges strategy and policy to provide families with choices that untether their child’s school from their ZIP code. Our work with hundreds of school networks, school districts, parochial schools, advocates, and nonprofits has shaped state legislation on charter-school quality, enabled networks to grow in quality, and has provided families with more choices.
Going Deeper
Residential segregation too often concentrates educational opportunity in wealthy (often white) communities. Over the last 30 years, the school choice movement has empowered parents — many of whom are from systemically marginalized communities — to find educational options that better meet their child’s needs. When implemented with an eye toward quality, equity, accessibility, and accountability, school choice is a powerful lever for improving education. Today, tech-enabled personalized learning options continue to push the sector in new and innovative directions.
Our Team
Our team has some of the nation’s leading voices on quality school options and implementation. Bellwether’s work in expanding educational options seeks to identify, learn from, and support the growth of personalized learning, quality school-choice options, and other innovative school models. We conduct research to analyze the conditions, including public policy changes, that enable high-quality models to scale. We also work directly with schools, districts, charter management organizations, private school operators, and nonprofit organizations seeking to develop, implement, scale, or evaluate innovative programs to improve student results.
