Many major school systems remain 100 percent virtual and have not provided in-person instruction since March. More than 3 million students may not have logged into virtual school or received any formal education since then either. Meanwhile, an intense national debate has broken out about whether schools should be open or not. Before the Biden-Harris Administration takes the helm in D.C., we ask: Is it time to reopen schools? How can education leaders do it safely?
On Monday, December 14, Bellwether Education Partners will bring together Janice K. Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools, and Emily Oster, Professor of Economics at Brown University, to discuss the nuances, priorities, trade-offs, and tensions in reopening schools. Moderated by Bellwether’s Andy Rotherham, this conversation goes beyond the political discourse to date and focuses on where to go from here.
Participants:
- Janice K. Jackson, EdD, Chief Executive Officer, Chicago Public Schools
- Emily Oster, Professor of Economics, Brown University
- Andy Rotherham, Co-Founder & Partner, Bellwether Education Partners (moderator)
