Common Ground: How Public K-12 Schools Are Navigating Pandemic Disruptions and Political Trends is the first of a semi-annual “stocktaking” publication to analyze various political trends impacting education and young people. We focus on six issues related to pandemic disruptions and broader cultural debates:

  • School enrollment
  • Student achievement
  • School discipline
  • Guns and school safety
  • Race and racism
  • LGBT rights

Each topic begins with an overview of the data and research at a societal level, then takes a closer look at effects on the education sector and individual schools.

Our goal is not to suggest “right” answers for complicated issues. Instead, we hope to help the field establish a common fact base — because understanding the landscape is the first step to navigating it.

Bellwether’s “stocktaking” series, part of Beta by Bellwether, helps the education sector separate signal from noise and move toward a shared fact base on timely issues. You can find our other stocktaking publications here.
