Advocates for the “science of reading” — the push for a more research-based approach to teaching reading — have won big victories in recent years, with 47 states and Washington, D.C. adopting laws or policies designed to encourage it. But to see the full benefit from these policies in the classroom, leaders will have to navigate tough implementation challenges, a tricky political climate, and the long history of fights about the best way to teach children to read.

Join Bellwether for a conversation on how leaders and policymakers can learn from the recent history of school reform efforts and make the science of reading stick.

This webinar is a companion to On The Same Page, Bellwether’s report on the past, present, and future of reading instruction.

Panelists:
Barbara Davidson, President, StandardsWork and Executive Director, Knowledge Matters Campaign
Penny Schwinn, former Tennessee Education Commissioner
Beth Thompson, Chief of Strategy and Innovation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Andy Rotherham (moderator), Co-Founder and Partner, Bellwether
