Bellwether is supporting two emerging, city-based “harbormaster” initiatives designed to substantially increase the number of high quality public school seats in Atlanta and Memphis.

Both roles demand an entrepreneurial executive leader, deep understanding of school operations and growth, committed to equity, quality and choice; politically savvy, sophisticated coalition builder ability to lead authentic community engagement and make data and evidence informed decisions.

From the postings:

“NewOrg,” two years in conception in Atlanta, has engaged funders as well as education and civic leaders, city-wide and nationally, to determine where philanthropy can have the greatest impact for Atlanta’s neediest children.  As its temporary name suggests, NewOrg is a “green space,” whose founding Executive Director will need to envision, develop, and implement supply, human capital, and advocacy strategies. In Memphis, Teacher Town (working name) is up and running with a variety of well-functioning programs and talented team members already operating on the ground. Supported by an impressive range of local and national funders, the founding CEO of Teacher Town will align these programs with a set of common, mutually agreed upon goals, and identify gaps left by unmet needs. S/he’s an organizer, with the skills and sensibilities required to navigate a complex political landscape and bring disparate groups together.
