 Background

Emily Shisler is an associate partner at Bellwether, with a focus on the team’s Texas Resilient Schools Support Program (RSSP) portfolio of work.

Prior to joining Bellwether, Emily was a leadership coach for Achievement First’s Charter Network Accelerator, coaching chief academic officers across the country on instructional programs and building personal leadership skills. At Achievement First, she also founded Navigator Literature and acted as a Navigator coach for the first three years of the program.

Emily is a 2006 Houston Teach For America corps member and began her career teaching sixth-grade reading in the Houston Independent School District. She also spent eight years at YES Prep, serving as the director of its grade 6-12 literacy program. While at YES Prep, Emily taught English I, English III, and spent eight years teaching Advanced Placement English literature and composition. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Northwestern University and master’s degree in English literature from the University of Houston.


Why I Do This Work

My true passion lies in envisioning rigorous, culturally-responsive instruction for all scholars to help cultivate their genius, and in helping school leaders and teachers to make this manifest.
