Background:
Alexandria (Alex) Smith is a consultant in the Strategic Advising practice area at Bellwether.
Prior to joining Bellwether, Alex worked for two years as a senior analyst at NewSchools Venture Fund on both their Innovative Public Schools and Research and Learning teams. Alex supported several NewSchools investment teams to refine their impact measurement and reporting strategies, and drove the organization’s data collection and impact reporting efforts. She also supported selection and diligence efforts throughout several investment cycles.
Alex is an alumna of Teach For America, where she worked as a third-grade teacher and caseload manager for children with special education needs in New Orleans East for three years. Alex holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The George Washington University.
Why I do this work:
Growing up, I was privileged to receive a high-quality public education and I firmly believe this privilege should be afforded to all students, regardless of their household income, race, or ZIP code. My experiences as a teacher will forever fuel my passion for this work — in particular, learning about sustainable and culturally responsive innovations within early childhood education for students who are affected by racism and poverty.Â
