Kimberly Thompson is a senior consultant at Bellwether.
Kimberly is passionate about helping education leaders build the capacity, systems, and culture necessary to create sustainable change for students. She brings more than 19 years of experience teaching, leading, and partnering with schools and districts to strengthen instructional leadership, improve educator practice, and increase student achievement. Prior to joining Bellwether, Kimberly served as a regional coordinator at Region 4 Education Service Center, where she built the instructional leadership capacity of district and campus leaders as a Texas Instructional Leadership (TIL) coach. She also facilitated Effective Schools Framework diagnostics to identify school strengths and opportunities for growth and supported school improvement efforts across multiple school systems. She worked alongside executive leaders, principal managers, and principals to develop sustainable instructional systems, strengthen leadership teams, and translate strategic priorities into measurable improvements in teaching and learning.
Kimberly began her career in Houston Independent School District as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher before serving as an assistant principal and later as principal of an elementary music magnet school. During her seven years as principal, she led initiatives that strengthened instructional practice, developed teacher and leader capacity, and improved outcomes for students.
Kimberly earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Houston.
Why I Do This Work
Growing up, I attended some of the best schools my district had to offer. As a teacher and later a school leader in that same district, I realized not every student had the same opportunities simply because of the school they attended. That experience drives my work today because I know what’s possible when every student has access to the conditions, support, and high-quality education they need to succeed.
