Why I Do This Work
My mother was a teacher and growing up, I saw the impact she had on her students and their families. My mother taught at the high school level for 30 years, and near retirement she had grandchildren of her original students in her class! When I became a teacher, I saw firsthand the disparities that exist for children based on their ZIP code, skin color, and socioeconomic status. This is unacceptable, and I have committed my life’s work to creating a high-quality education system that is equitable for all students.
