Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) — publicly funded, government-authorized savings accounts parents can use to pay for their child’s educational expenses — have expanded rapidly in recent years, with nearly 20 states now operating ESA programs. But ensuring these programs work well for families while including necessary oversight can be a difficult balancing act.
