Background
Bill Griffin Jr. is a senior consultant and LIFT coach at Bellwether.
Whether exploring learning, leadership, or organizational change, he is driven by a desire to uncover the deeper patterns that weave seemingly disconnected parts into a coherent whole. Bill’s passion for this work stems from being the student these systems are designed to serve. As a first-generation college student, he knows how much a single opportunity, a great teacher, or a supportive system can change the trajectory of a life. His upbringing and the communities he has served reinforce that talent is distributed far more evenly than opportunity and access. The belief that a student’s future should never be constrained by the quality of the systems surrounding them has shaped his career and dedication to helping educators and organizations create the conditions that make life-changing opportunities more consistently accessible to all students.
Throughout his career, Bill has worked across districts, networks, and nonprofit organizations, supporting efforts in mathematics instruction, college and career readiness, curriculum implementation, and leadership development. Having lived and worked in communities across every contiguous U.S. time zone, he brings a broad perspective on the diverse contexts of education and the underlying patterns that shape both the challenges schools face and the solutions that help schools thrive.
Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Williams College, where he developed a perspective that continues to shape his work today: to understand where something is going, you must first understand how it came to be. He currently lives in Texas with his wife and two children, who remind him daily that teaching and learning are among humanity’s oldest and most enduring endeavors.
Why I Do This Work
Education changed the trajectory of my life. It opened doors and expanded possibilities that will reverberate down through generations in my family. I do this work because I believe every human, especially those most marginalized in our society, deserves the opportunity to build a life of well-being, purpose, and possibility.
